Programmes of Study

A Programme of Study is a full time course for young people aged 16-18 years old. They run from September to June and we have programmes based in South Bristol and Trelander, Cornwall.

Students gain:

  • Qualifications that will enable students to gain meaningful employment
  • Relevant sports coaching experience
  • Skills required to become a sports coach
  • Advice, support and career guidance

The course is run by experienced sports coaches /professionals and there are frequent opportunities to visit other providers, employers , universities and many other enrichment activities.

This programme is a blended learning approach of two days college and two days work placement with a range of coaching opportunities:

  • Schools
  • Clubs
  • Professional clubs
  • Community sport

 

Qualifications gained on Level 2:

  • 1st4Sport Level 2 Principles and Preparation of Coaching Sport
  • 1st4Sport NVQ Level 2 Activity Leadership
  • Safeguarding
  • First Aid
  • 1st4Sport Level 2 Multi Skills in Sports Development*
  • Maths and English (dependent on Grades Functional skills-GCSEs)

 

Qualifications gained on Level 3:

  • 1st4Sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting School Sport and Physical Education
  • Safeguarding
  • First Aid
  • Maths and English (Dependent on Grades Functional skills-GCSEs)

 

Opportunities after course:

  • Apply for sports coaching roles with sport coaching organisations
  • Apply for apprenticeships
  • Set up as a self-employed sports coach
  • Apply for university

Intermediate Apprenticeship

Earn as you learn with a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at Coachmakers and build a career in sports coaching, activity leaderships or fitness instructing.

Advanced Apprenticeship

Coachmakers works with a range of employers across the South West and offers Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) for young people aged 16 – 24 looking to get into personal training and multi-sports coaching.
