Beth’s story

Beth met our Head of Coachmakers through playing football in Cornwall. Early on Beth showed an interest in coaching and was always keen to volunteer and help out with the sessions.

After a few months, it was clear that Beth had great potential and had bags of enthusiasm. Together they devised a continual professional development plan for Beth’s coaching which involved plenty of volunteering.

Beth finished college at 18 and decided to enroll on to our Coachmakers programme in 2013.

Coachmakers gave me the opportunity to gain all the relevant coaching qualifications and the experience I needed to progress my career. It also gave me the mentoring and opportunities to progress into a wide range of coaching employment roles. There isn’t another course like this out there, that I know of, that can do all of that.

From the beginning, Beth was an asset to Coachmakers and demonstrated her leadership potential and motivation by always putting herself forward for new challenges and tasks. At the end of the programme we asked Beth to reflect on her experiences:

The coaching experience I gained through Coachmakers helped me gain a huge understanding of how to organise, run and evaluate all different kinds of sport programmes; from inclusion projects and grass roots football, to school sport and elite football. I had the chance to put into practice all I had learned on the course which was so much in a short space of time!

Now Beth supports lots of young people on their journey to coaching sport and physical activity as a sports coach and Coachmakers tutor in Cornwall and we are proud to have Beth on the team.
